Evaluation

Take a look at the final/latest version of your proposal and test the results of your project against it:

  • Do you think you achieved your aims?
  • Where do you feel you didn’t achieve your aims? Why?
  • What areas do you feel you could improve upon in the second year?

Guidance: 250 words minimum

I feel that I didn’t meet all my goals as I still had loads of ideas on the text I didn’t attempt to turn it into a scene in the script at any point to make the scene, however I feel that I had captured the spirit, as I achieved the feel of parody movies like Space-balls and Monty python and the holy grail as I mad my film a absurd comedy as the films ending, which was directly based on the ending of the holy grail. I should make my proposal more clear next time. the area I need to improve on is the fact that I need to make sure that I’m as pierce as possible with what I write on my proposal as it was vague at some points with little to help me, also I felt that I put in to much ideas into the proposal that I couldn’t ever make my work as good as I wanted it to be. the project in my option could of worked but due to my lack of care and time management resulted in the final film lacking in quality, this makes the film look worse compared to earlier projects that I made in less time, this mean the proposal should of been much better then it should of been as it had little direct information, to tell me what to do. my aims were not clear as I did not think of them at all during production, this means that I handy-cap myself from the get go, so next time have proper defined goals to aim for in the next project

What have you learned about your own workflow and ability to produce a large project?

  • Evaluate your use of time, project scope, aims, and skills gained. Be honest, cover each of the bold points above. For example, did you use all 12 weeks well? Was your project ambitious enough? Were your aims too basic? Did you make a proper effort to improve your skillset?
  • Give an example of how research informed your project, discuss how this helped you.
  • What was the hardest problem you had to face for this project? How did you overcome it?

Guidance: 400 words minimum

My time management wasn’t as good as I hope it to be as I constantly got stuck with my work as I over thought the whole production, this slowed down my speed a lot of the time as I thought more about what to do then actually doing my plan, this can be improved by making sure to have a constant plan as I usually let myself come up with my own plan, this lead to me begin slower at making my work them usual, my research in the end help me come up with the overall feel of my film as I want to make my movie original but familiar at the same time to my audience, this worked out well as my audience loved the film for how funny it was so I feel that I owe a thanks to films like Austin Powers, the spy who shagged me and Shaun of the dead. the hardest problem I faced in the project was the fact that I left myself with so little time to edit my film down this made me rush towards the end of production this left me with little time to finish editing along with completing my production dairy. I feel that I should of used more skill then I actually did in my final project as I ether used very basic techniques like the rule of 3 or used skills poorly like using zoom were the footage becomes blurry and the lift segment wasn’t smooth at all, this is due to the fact that I put little care into the small details of the film, this is because I constantly changed what I wanted to do with my cast, as most of this was improvised, it mostly resulted in sub-par film-making on my part, this was unfair on my cast as they gave their roles their all and I couldn’t even work a camera, so next time I need to know how to precisely work with my camera to the best of my abilities. my horror villain research help me come up with my final villain design, this was one of the most useful piece of research as this help define the whole sub genre of the film as it made me narrow done my film in a slasher movie, this help me come up with the cliches I would use and the rest of it became the film that got produced.

Film preparation

This is my final part of my project editing all my footage together into a single piece, this piece is called the Bane of my life and name given to it by close relatives when I was brain storming ideas, this title will be a horror with comedy elements, the horror will be inspired by slasher movie and the comedy is base on films like space balls and the monty python film series.

Today I’ll make my film, I first start by usb card to find and locate my filming in the mac finder. below is some of the footage I will be using in my production

Screen Shot 2017-06-06 at 09.26.25.png

after finding my files I began to place them into the abobe premiere, so I could edit them together, for here I will be placing all of my select footage onto the timeline, for now I’ll only use the footage made with the canon camera

Screen Shot 2017-06-06 at 09.42.41.png

From this I look at the first scene present on the camera, a shot I took when on the road to the filming location, this shot involves the camera looking out of the window onto the road, this scene had some good parts so I cut out any bit I thought were good like the side view of a brush and the part when I added a darker filter, when we entered some forest bits the whole screen went dark, I think I’ll use this to my advantage and use this as a transition to the title screen, I removed all the sound from this segments because I had no need for them and I can easily replace them at any time with stock music from the rest of the film or so copyright free music I can find online

Screen Shot 2017-06-06 at 10.10.52.pngScreen Shot 2017-06-06 at 10.11.05.png

In this scene we we have a scene were peter along with the rest of the cast are having a conversation, I did alt of scenes were the acters talk to each other, wih this formet I film one actor whilst the others act their lines of screen, I did this mutiple times, when editing I edit out my own voice and any out of character moments from the characters, I removed peters first take as he wasn’t speaking in the german acent at the time so I decide to cut those scene of him.

Screen Shot 2017-06-06 at 10.12.38.png

The next scene I edited was of Leanne scenes of the conversation, their we two scene to edit together both featured

Screen Shot 2017-06-06 at 10.15.41.png

during the editing process I came across a bit of footage with peter driving this is meant to go along with the the road scene as the being of the film. I removed the sound as it did little to help make the scene along with music playing in the background, also I cut the last few seconds for now as I think it wound not sync up with the countiuity of the procing shots after I finished editing

PC1.png

the next scene was Leanne and jack walking through a forest, this scene was meant to transition the film from the car to the forest, I decided to cut out a bit when I fell down a ledge as the camera was shaken incredibly, this would not make my film look good so I cut it from the production.

PC2.png

I deleted the rest of the forest scene as it mostly me talking to Leanne and jack about what to do next and the first scene after that is a scene of Leanne trying out on of her lines.

PC3.png

During my next few attempt to edit the video it failed as I had problems downloading the data from my drive until my tutors help me produce my work, we fix this by putting all my videos footage into a singler file.

PC!.png

When I started to edit again I began with trying to piece the car scene together, this involved my getting all the scene inside the car together and choicing with ones I’ll use, some scenes were blurry like one of leannes scenes so I decide to cut that bit out and use different footage in its place, the main problem I had with this project is the fact that I film a huge amount of footage and had left myself with so little time to edit it all together so I rush this part to find footage that look up to basic standerd, this luckly went well for me.

PC10.png

this a scene of Leanne in the back seat reacting to what Peter has to say to her about the horrors of the forest, this scene was shaking so I decide to try and minimize this by cutting the worse bit out and placing the good bit into other less shaky scenes

PC13.png

Their were a couple of scenes that I had problems with, three scenes scene I had made were almost unviewable as they were too dark for me to see and edit with them so I had to edit this scenes out of their entirety so next time I film I’ll need to make sure I can see what is happening unless I want to waste time.

PC30.1.png

this is me deleting some unwanted footage, this scene is of a failed attempt of jack panicking, this was due to my poor directing so I need to be a better director, this scene would not work as the scene stops immediately as jack had to ask my a question about the production.

PC40.png

the forest scene is very similar to the car scene as I had film form multiple points of view, this revealed a problem, I was to indecisive as I took ages to find the footage I wanted so this lead to me taking to long with my editing.

PC61.png

The car scene was much easier to work with as I was able to film it in one go, this however made me feel lazy as I took to long looking through my work to find the one scene that went well as appose to looking over the failed attempts for over ten minutes.PC76.png

The final segment of the film is the pub scene, this involves bane entering a pub to find non other then the horse demon, this was my favorite part of production as I experimented with my scenes and angle however I rushed through this part, this mean I could of done better and during filming I could of followed the script more.

PC80.png

Conclusion:

In conclusion, I should of left myself with more time to edit my film rather then just put it off each time, I also should of made sure to have a plan as I rarely told my actors what to do along with even injuring them during the running scene as I hadn’t planned a safe way for them to run away to, so I have a lot to improve upon next year.

22/5/17

During this week I started to do my first bit of filming, this involves me Leanne, Jack and Peter Going into a car to film, the plan was to go into a lane on the road to film the product, however I decided to get some footage on the road whilst we where out so we took a 3 minute journey past the lane and back, when we were driving I tested the cameras setting in order to make the scene darker, this is meant to make the film have the colour grading of a horror with the darker colours, I also tried out the resolution in order to get the clearest image when I edit, the first thing I did when we got to the sit was to jump out and begin filming the car window, this is based on a screen I sore when looking up how to film inside a car, this was meant to be the scene that happens before we meet our characters, this is inspired by many TV shows movies that have this exact scene which happens after a credit to transition them to a place to meet the characters, the next scene has peter introducing him self with the rest of the cast in character whilst the other continue talking off screen, this lasted until the first page was completed, I did it this way as I could easily edit my footage together later on and to cut together as I now when to stop my editing, also it gives me more freedom with my editing, the next scenes focus on Jack and Leanne reacting to peters character, this also helps make my actors perform their roles by reacting to each other, I did various scenes scenes focusing on one character at a time a part with from a few with jack and Leanne, I made each shot with only one actor is because it makes them isolated, being isolated is one of the most common fears n humans have so it makes the scene more uncanny.PC2.png

I conclusion, I thought the filming went well however I could of been more prepared as most of the angle I choose were made in the last week, so next time I should double check my camera’s battery so my work before I make sure I can produce the best work I can, so because of this we had to wait for the camera to recharge a bit before we went off, when we went off, I decide to have jack and Leanne walk into the forest, with me following them, I happen to trip on my why down however, the rest of the time we firm the screen where jack and Leanne argue about what the man had said to them, the news terrifies jack, however Leanne is getting annoyed at his constant out bursts until they notice a piece of paper on the tree, this scares jack even more whilst Leanne has about had it with him until the demon played by me shows up and scare them both off with Leanne dying and Jack making it out to Peter. During filming the actors actual hurt themselves when running away, this was a mistake of mine and I should of made sure the actors didn’t hurt themselves in the first place, so next time I should make my actors safer.

PC36.png

On Saturday I filmed with Jack and later a new actor Angelo to play the role of the demon, I filmed Jack walking into the bar, this went well due to my use of the 3×3 grid and jacks amazing acting, the next step was to film jack sitting at the bar by himself, During this time I spent a lot of time getting different shots of him to the point of waste, the next scene had jack be confront by the Angelo’s horse demon, this lead to jack facing the camera and telling the camera his plan, I moved the camera up and down to make it seem like the audience was responding, jack launches at the beast only for the next scene to show them as friends, this lead into everyone laughing including myself, this was unprofessional but I could use this as a reference to the abrupt ending of Monty Python and the holy grail as both are absurd comedy based on a famous sub genre of medieval fantasy

PC43.2.png

In conclusion: the film went well but I could of planed ahead more as I only had a basic outline of what I wanted to do, but this lead to me changing thing at the last moment, not insturicing my actors as well as I could of and me taking too long with one shot, so I need to learn how to plan for next year.
